Just In: NLC President, Joe Ajaero, Arrested During Protest in Imo State

The President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has reportedly been arrested by the police during an ongoing protest in Imo State, as reported by Ripples Nigeria on Wednesday November 1, 2023.

The protest, which began on November 1, was organized by the NLC in response to alleged violations and abuse of rights and privileges of workers by the state government.

According to eyewitnesses, the protest turned chaotic as miscreants descended on the protesters, smashing vehicles and injuring labor members.

The whereabouts of Ajaero are currently unknown, as heavily armed security personnel were seen taking him away.

The NLC had earlier announced that it would begin protests in Imo State from November 1, over the alleged violation and abuse of rights and privileges of workers by the state government.

Ajaero had expressed deep concern about the persistent and egregious violations of the rights and privileges of workers in the state, despite efforts to engage in constructive dialogue and reach amicable agreements.

The NLC President had stated that the Imo State Government had become a habitual and serial breaker of agreements, continuing to trample on the rights of workers in the state.

As a result, the NLC decided to embark on mass protests and industrial actions, starting from November 1, to demonstrate their outrage and stop the continuing violation of the rights and privileges of workers in the state.
